Description:

Mental Illness Fellowship SA & Baptist Care SA Peer Work Project
Peer Conference
Melbourne 2012

About the Peer Work Project
A Peer Worker is someone with a lived experience of mental illness, who is living well and is able to support others
experiencing mental illness in facilitating their own recovery.

The Australian Government has embraced the ‘Recovery Approach’ to mental health: that is, people with mental illnesses can reach a point where they are living well (managing their illness effectively) and can function as valuable members of the community. The SA Government Funded the Mental Illness Fellowship of SA (MIFSA) and Baptist Care (SA) Inc partnership in 2005 to train Peer Workers and support them, and organisations, throughout the employment process.
